August has always been a bad month for hair. Humidity and an occassional thunderstorm are bad enough – but when you factor in those gray fly-aways, the frizzy mess can reach a whole new level. As hair turns gray, the texture changes and become more coarse. In other words, stay away from any back lighting! Here are some Professional Hypochondriac “must haves” to help keep us looking smooth, sleek and shiny.
Aquage Transforming Paste
About $20
Available on-line or at beauty salons
– Personal rec by Bernadette H.
Don’t let the consistency scare you. It looks and feels like sticky glue in your hands but works miracles if you apply it lightly through your dry hair. Especially if you’re opposed to hair spray, this product tames the fly-aways and dries without feeling stiff. I found my hair also looked good on “day 2” after using this paste.
Dove Extra Hold Hairspray
About $2
Available at most drug stores
– Personal rec by Colleen
This personal rec is by a model who swears by this hairspray to keep her hair – whether down or in a ponytail – in perfect place. With a light spray, it’s easy to smooth down any little pieces that might be going astray. You also can’t beat the price.
Moroccanoil
About $40
Available on-line or in beauty salons
- Personal rec by Dana G.
It is pretty pricey, but to quote an old commercial, “a little dab’ll do yah”. This product can be applied to wet hair prior to blow drying. It works well on all hair types.
Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Hair Serum
About $15
Available on-line or in hair salons
- Personal rec by Taylor S.
Applied to wet hair, this serum reduces drying time and makes hair super shiny. It also smoothes and de-frizzes. As an added bonus, it smells like apples.
What Are Your Personal Recs?
If you have a product you love, can’t live without and are willing to share – please send us your personal recommendations. We’ll do our own due diligence and then consider featuring it as a The Professional Hypochondriac “must have.” We’ll also give credit where credit is due and include a first-name mention of the contributor with the “personal rec.”
So if you’re lovin’ your new lotion, dying over a healthy granola bar or just found that perfect hair gel that makes everything fall into place, please do share. After all, we need a little more help now than we used to!
